80LS1T Posted February 20, 2003 Share Posted February 20, 2003 I am ordering my pistons today and I need to know what size of rings(.005, .035, .045, .065?) to use? I am using KB Hypers / 4.030, in my 93 LT1. The rings size is 5/64, 5/64, 3/16. Oh yeah and I am using Speed-Pro rings. Heres what I need to know.... Std. or Low tension rings??? Chrome or Plasma molly top ring? Guest Anonymous Posted February 21, 2003 Share Posted February 21, 2003 I recently finished my engine with Chrome-Moly rings (Sealed Power) I was advised to go with them, while using a more course stone to hone. But after I built it another engine builder told me I need a mirror finish on my cylinder walls? I don't know now! But I have 2 cyls. not totally sealed with about 500-750 miles. fastzcars Posted February 21, 2003 Share Posted February 21, 2003 You have two choices.either file fit rings or pre-gaped rings. if file fit rings .035 for a .030 over bore.Usually file fits are .005 over the bore size, then you file the ring gap to the manufactures recomendations.Pre-gaped rings are odered at the size of the overbore. .030 to .030 , .040 to .040 and so on.
