RPMS
My sister finally kicked the tenants out of her rental property, and they left a bunch of crap behind. Among the piles of miscellaneous car parts was a set of 64cc camel hump heads! I don't know anything about the condition, except that they're rusty. My question is this: I've got a rebuilt 1996 350 that I'm getting ready to install. What are the ramifications of putting 64cc heads onto a mild motor like this that was originally designed for fuel injection? I know the intake manifold will have to change, but would there be any performance gains to be had? I also found a bare block, and the casting number indicates that it's either a 302, 327, or 350 from 1968. (3914678) This weekend I'm going to have to go back out there and spend some time digging deeper in that pile of rubble. Who knows what I'll find! Mike C
The GM heads from that era just aren't worth much performance wise anymore compared to more modern designs. If they have accessory bolt holes they might be worth spending money on, but not if they don't. The non-accessory hole heads were/are much more common and the inability to use later style accessory brackets bites. If you have to have them vatted, magnafluxed, surfaced, seats installed, guides, a valve job, spring pockets opened up, etc., just save yourself lots of headaches and buy a set of Vortecs. Vortecs are 64cc same as the early heads, and both will require a different intake as you noted. There will be ~1 point compression GAIN going from the 76cc heads to the 64cc. On the cylinder head deck of the passenger side in the very front should be a stamped code of numbers and letters. A two digit letter suffix should ID the original application. http://www.nastyz28.com
DavyZ
I agree with Mike on this one: you'll end up spending more money reconditioning the heads then they are worth in terms of performance gains, etc. I think you are better off buying Dart heads or something of that nature if you like cast iron. Aluminum heads are lusty and light although they are more expensive. I'm always on the prowl for some hipo heads too!! Davy

Guest Anonymous
I absolutely agree with everyone that posted above. Sell the things on ebay, where someone who thinks double hump heads are Jesus will pay a stupid price for them. Then, go out and get a set of vortecs or something similar. When it comes to heads, GENERALLY speaking old iron is exactly that-old iron, for the reasons listed in posts above.
Guest yooklid
So did you find out exactly what type of block it is?
