2.3 Turbo motor into Z

This maybe in the wrong forum but... Just letting you guys know I MAYBE thinking of putting a 2.3Turbo Motor out of a 87-88 T-Bird TurboCoupe. I'm in the process of "building" the motor now actually it's now a 2.5 with longer rods and shorter pistons. I'm unsure what kind of car I want to put it into but it's coming down to a 240Z or your everyday 87-93 Mustang Hatchback. The good news of this swap is the tranny and driveshaft is the SAME as a 5.0 out of the 87-93 Mustangs so that part of the swap has been done. The bad thing is no one has done this exact swap so I'll be doing alot of experimenting if I go through with it. I do have a welder and engine hoist so I could make my own motor mounts. I'll be running and SDS stand alone system so the electrical wont be a problem either. What other issues would I run into? How much horse can the stock 180mm rear in the 240Z handle? How much can the 200mm handle? One last question... Anyone know of a 240, 260 or 280Z for sale in or around Connecticut? I'm sure I'll have lots more questions but this shall do for now.

you might recignize my name from the turboford forrum :) you wont be the first if I can help it :) some of the others here will know more than I about the rearends but the R200 is a more stout and more common rearend and as far as I know it's the only one with an available adapter flange, so you can use the ford u joints as the datsun joints are tiny, oh and anothe problem I am working on the hydraulic clutch from the datsun has a tiny master and a tiny slave, and the T/C set up is made to use the firewall so, it's out, there is a tilton master and a pull slave a lot of the ford v8 guys use but I am thinking push for tunnel clearance

Welcome. Others will chime in with more/better information, but here is what I have. The R180 will handle about 300 HP, and the R200 will take 500+, but the weak link becomes the U-joints and/or the stub axles.

I have long been a fan of the turbo 2.4 that was in the Turbo Coupe and the SVO Mustang. One of the most fun cars I ever drove was a SVO Mustang. It was a blast, I only wish I had more than a drive around the block to play with it.
