BAlford
We have a 1982 Datsun 280ZX, it has a Chev. 350 and a turbo-400 trans. We are installing a digital dash. We also need to use a right angle drive coming out of the tran to eliminate the sharp bend in the cable. The Chev parts says they have several different gear ratios in the right angle drives. Does anyone know what ratio I should use? See our car at: waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
Guest greimann
We are going to need more info to help you make a decision: Rear gear ratio Tire size Current speedo gear ratio (how many teeth are on the drive gear and driven gear). P.S. The link didn't work.
BAlford
The car has the original rear end and the tires are Pirelli P700-z 225/50ZR 15. I did type the web address wrong. Corrected web address waskomtexas@waskomtexas.com
pparaska
Just a thought here. I've heard here that people just cut a hole in the tunnel and run the speedo cable straight into the tunnel, let it curve gently toward the front of the car under the seat and run it up the inner rocker toward the speedo. The right size hole in the tunnel would allow the speedo cable grommet to fit well, then add some weatherstrip adhesive as you install it. Guest greimann
We are still going to need to know the rear ratio. It could be either a 3.9 or a 3.54. To figure this out, jack up the rear end so both wheels are off of the ground, put trans in neutral and with a friend, turn both wheels one revolution simultaneously in the same direction. Count the numbers of turns the driveshaft takes. If it turns 3.9 times, ergo 3.9 ratio. You will also need to find out what the current speedo gears are in the trans, or know what the rear ratio was in the car the trans was pulled from, OR what the speedometer error is while driving the car at a known speed. BTW, those seats are Sweet! And the lion mural.... at a loss for words....
