Guest TBroZ
I've got an older 327 block that originally had a Muncie 4 spd set up, and I'm converting to a T5 trans. I just pulled the old parts today and noticed that the starter bolted to the bellhousing. The T5 bellhousing I bought has the bulge for the starter, but the starter doesn't bolt to it. Please tell me I need a different bellhousing and not a new motor. Old bellhousing for Muncie...which starter bolts to: New T5 bellhousing, bulge, but no starter mount holes: TK
DavyZ
The starter I have bolts to my 350 block, not the T5 bellhousing. The starter came off of a late 80's to early 90's Camaro with 305 V8. It would be easier to replace the starter then the block The bolts go thru the starter and bolt UP into the 'flange' that sticks out from the block--you should have two holes for such a provision. Hope this makes sense. Davy
Guest TBroZ
Here's my problem: There is no starter mount that I can see.
Mike C
GM used bellhousing mount starters off and on in the 50's and 60's. The passenger side of the bottom of the block should have two bolt holes for the starter. You need to get a block mounted starter and a 153 tooth flywheel in order to use the T5 bellhousing. I have never seen any 12.5" diameter flywheels with the bellhousing mount starter, just 14" ones (168 tooth) I have also never seen a motor NOT drilled for the block mount starter. Guest TBroZ
From what I can see, these are the only possible holes. I do not believe they were being used when I unbolted the old set-up. If it's not obvious, this is looking straight up at the passenger rear corner of the block. Please tell me those are them.

DavyZ
Those are them. Yep, just what he said. My starter mounts to the two in parallel, but some starters mount using the diagonal holes. Some of the high torque mini starters from Jeg's & Summit can use either if I'm not mistaken. The pics have been great BTW and make it much easier to diagnose a 'problem.' And you don't have many Davy
