Guest Anonymous
Wow, what an open ended question. For starters, whats some boundries: How much are you willing to spend bottom line. What is a decent qaurter time? What is a concrete time goal for you? What is a concrete hp # for you? Will you be doing work yourself or in a shop? Do you want the car to remain streetable? What kind of year/model even is it? When do you plan to do the V8 Conversion? From the research ive done, throttle body mod, exhaust and headwork while retaining stock efi on 1975-79 could net at up +75 hp tuned. As far as earlier Z's options are to soup up SU carbs and do headwork and exhaust can net up +50 hp tuned. I'll tell you right now, any money that you sink into your straight6 now you'll probably recover 10% of it if that when you scrap it in favor of the V8. So bare bones of it i'd throw a K&N and a glasspack on it for a quick, dirty and cheap 25hp.

Mudge
The correct spelling is Hugh Jass Gears is usually the cheapest way to go quick, used headers might be next, other than that things like a cam swap is looking like $500 or so, headwork $$$, so there isn't much that is really dirt cheap - however this is true with any engine.
