That's what my tranny guy told me and what I've been doing... tranny doesn't seem to have any problems that might be caused by too much fluid. dsommer Posted March 5, 2003 Share Posted March 5, 2003 All the info sounds right. I found out that an empty T-5 holds about 5 quarts of fluid so be sure to get enough. If the tranny is in the car already get a pump for a boat outdrive (avaliable at Wal-Mart) and use it to fill the tranny till it just "dribbles" out of the fill plug. ds Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest TBroZ Posted March 5, 2003 Share Posted March 5, 2003 Well, I got to about four quarts, and discovered mass quantities coming out a big hole in the side casing at the tail. After a call, I learned that that is the speedo hole. I was pleased to find that the one in the Saginaw fit. A little work with the hold down bracket and all set. I used Valvoline and Valvoline synthetic blend ATF. Bought a too cheap pump at Kragen...messy (the pump itself leaked a lot), but it worked. Guest greimann Posted March 5, 2003 Share Posted March 5, 2003 Just a thought, do you have the correct speedometer drive gears installed for your rear end ratio? Do you care? The driven gear is on the little plug you just inserted and the drive gear is inside the transmission. You will need to know the colors of these gears to determine if your ratio is correct. Changing the drive gear means removing the tailshaft housing. Do you know if the GM T5 has 8 tooth drive gears like the Ford T5? Also, since you're a wealth of information, do you know of a good tire calculator. I looked at my records and I have a 21 tooth driven gear for my 3.7 rear, and that equates to a 7 tooth gear. My T5 is from a '92 F-body.
