Guest Anonymous
I would like to know what you guys think about the chances of a 16x7--4.5" Backspacing centerline wheel, fitting on my 260Z? they are rated for Z car/Mustang. Will the wheels that are just mustang (same bolt pattern 4-4.5) wheels work also? Even though they dont say it? I cant find a 17x7 wheel that will fit, and 8" of backspacing is too much for stock suspension so I am told? So the bottom line is 7" BS is iffy for stock suspension, and 8 is just no go? Thanks And what tire would you guys suggest for performance tire sizes on a 16x7 wheel. Dan
Mudge
There is no way to have 7 or 8" of backspace, on a 7" wheel. A 7 inch wheel with zero offset has FOUR inches of backspacing. Offset is measured from the center of the rim to the edge of the tire seating surface, while backspacing is measured from the outside of the rim ~ half inch difference. Zero offset means the wheel mount surface is in the true middle of the wheel, and in the case of the 7" rim, 4 from the inside edge. An 8" wheel with 4.5" bs is a zero offset, 5" for a 9" wheel. Guest Anonymous
errrr 4.5" backspacing, not 7.... 16x7, my blunder. 16x7 4.5" backspacing, what are the odds of good fit? wanna run 235/45/R16's if at all possible
blueovalz
Fairly good odds. I had a custom set of wheels made (16" X 8") that had a 4.5" BS on a stock 280Z. This allowed a fingers width (pinky) to fit between the widest part of the tire's section width (245/45ZR16) and the stock spring).
Mudge
Since that is the same rule of thumb that Centerline is using for the Z wheels, I'd say pretty good, I wouldn't know why they might not work in fact. I forget who it was over there that was helping everyone, Angie???
Guest Your Car is Slow
So would a 11" rim require 7.5" of backspacing to clear the stock shock?? (or do I have that backwards) Hell is that even possible?
blueovalz
That number that I used of 4.5" of BS is for any width of rim at 16" (actually, a 16" wheel is really 17.5" in diameter). Remember, this is back spacing (inboard rim edge plane to the wheel mounting surface plane distance). With larger diameter wheels, the BS will increase slightly due to the kingpin angle of the strut, but that is too small to be of real consequence. Mudge
So would a 11" rim require 7.5" of backspacing to clear the stock shock?? (or do I have that backwards) The way people are calculating it, is 1/2 rim width + .5", so 5.5"+.5"= 6 inches back space
Guest Anonymous
hehe I dont know if it is or not, but it sounds interesting enough, albeit if I had the money to afford 11" meats (lol, that didnt sound good) I would probally rework the suspension with coil-overs too!?! I have been looking at the coil-over kit @ Modern-Motorsports, do any of you have any experience with this kit? its for $400. And if some of you guys are running those how do they work out?
