Mike C
6x are definitely a Pontiac head. There are several different versions that all have different combustion chamber volumes. They were found on 400 and 455 inch Pontiacs.

Guest 400 ci 280z
on the drivers side it has F049 and on the passenger side it has DN with a 5 under it. the date tells me that it is a 69 block because it has 3 freeze plugs and 2 motor mount holes. thing is my uncle said it was a 76 or a 77 trans am he had. do it just is not making any sense to me. Guest jens
6x is a 77-78 trans am 400 head with 1.66" exhaust valves. I think it has a 96cc combustion chamber. With a 1.77" exhaust valve or a little exhaust porting it flows just as good as a 400 96, 7k3 or 455 64 head from 70-73. Many 455 owners use it to raise compression to 9.5:1. http://members.boardhost.com/boyleworks/?960122923 http://www.pontiacwarriors.com/ http://www.chiefmanyhorses.com/iacatalog/indian_adventures_catalog.htm Supercharged efi 455 http://www.osterlen.com/alf/
Guest jens
Here is a few combinations and a picture of a pontiac engine. 6x-4 heads is one of the best d port heads to modify because they have more meat around the 2 siamesed exhaust ports than other d ports have. http://www.boyleworks.com/ta400/psp/featuredcars.html

Guest Anonymous
6X heads had 2 varieties: 6X-4 and 6X-8's. A pontiac block with two holes IS an early block. They can be used in later applications with modified or adapter mounts.
