383 tbi Help Input needed please read!!!

Recommended Posts

Alright my friend has a chevy blazer with a 383 installed in it. It has a good bit of power for what it is. I think it was all pretty low line using stock type heads and crank. The only problem I see is it has a tbi fuel injection system I dont know what car or truck it is from but I believe it is relativly stock. I dont think its really what the engine needs but I want fuel injection and want to know if I can upgrade this cheaply. I thought of the lt1 intake conversion but I dont know if I could use the wiring harness and computer I would have already. MOney is a big issue so what about a 454 throttle body and a chip or something. Id say my engine is built for 375 hp right now thats about it. I just found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2408616225&category=6770

The chip was tuned for the following engine specifications: Sbc 383 cid stroker kit, aluminum heads, 454 throttle body 2â€bores, holley ported adapter plate, weiand single plane alum. Intake, 65lb injectors, walbro 255 fuel pump, mallory fuel regulator, comp cam 0.447/0.462 lift, 210int and 218exh. @50, headers c/w 2.5â€diameter dual exhaust, borla mufflers. 10.4:1 compression. Rotating assembly balanced to 0.5gram, open element air cleaner, 165f thermostat. 92-93 octane fuel Thanks for as much info as possible...opinions are great too.

If you wanted to be dramatic you could run dual TBI's. http://ca.photos.yahoo.com/bc/andrewzcars/vwp?.dir=/My+Z-Cars+Stuff+!!!!!!!!!!!&.src=ph&.dnm=240z-31.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3a//ca.photos.yahoo.com/bc/andrewzcars/lst%3f%26.dir=/My%2bZ-Cars%2bStuff%2b!!!!!!!!!!!%26.src=ph%26.view=t

A 383 need more than any stock injection will give so be prepared to shell out. mini ram is real niceeeeeeee!!! 8)

alrighty someone here has to have an idea of what im trying to do. Am I nuts. I was thinking running the 454 throttle body with some vortech heads with the holley throttle body adaptor and a chip. Not sure what intake. Can I run the 454 throttle body on the 350 tbi harness with a chip? Or do you guys just not like my idea at all and think I should spend the big bucks?

I'm not really sure what you're after, but I think you're missing out on a lot of potential hp using the truck motor design- i.e. GET SOME CAM IN THERE! I've seen zits with better specs than that profile ;) My 262 V6 cam was way bigger. With the big cubes of the 383 you can make a mid 240s/ mid 500s lift 110-112 lsa cam very streetable. Torque is already the 383s middle name, in the lightweight Z you'll love the big mid upper range hp gains.

no no thats not the cam I would use of course. That is the cam the guy on ebay was running with his chip had. I was saying I wanted to do that type of upgrade or at least similar. Wanted input on that chip and on what I wanted to do.

Jared;

When you say things like "I think","Low Line" and "Stock type", I immediately think about head milling, headers and tuning. But then you turn right around and mention the TBI and the 58cc heads you already have I am at a loss to collect my thoughts as to what is going on. It would help a lot if you could say exactly what you want the engine to do and just exactly what else that engine already has performancewise?

Anyway, as I read even more of this post it keeps getting thicker so I am bowing out.

Good luck.

Sorry about the extra info Ill save it for another post. Still want some more opinion I think the dual tbi's would be pretty cool just have to get an adaptor. And a dual quad intake right. If I went that route I could just splice the harness and hook up the extra throttle body and hopefully find a way to get some tuning done. I dont know what I would do for a chip though. Would love to get some more input guys

i like turbo cities dual tbi Intake thats not the crossfire. They arent producing it but I think I could copy it. Wouldnt I want to run smaller tbi units like two v6 units instead of two v8 units. The holley tbi's for v6's are 400 cfm Im thinking 800 cfm would be plenty for my 383 even if it was hopped up quite a bit. Any ideas?
