K,

I am planning on dropping a 302 with a T5 in the 1972 240z. I was wondering what I have to do as in engine cradle, and if I have to modify the shifter for the T5 to fit the right spot in the tranny tunnel. Also can I use the stock open diff on the car or will it just get totally ripped out. I also need to know if there is anyone that produces conversion kits for the swap. I wanna do this right. No short cuts here. I need some advise.

Charles

Several of us have already finished what you are proposing. The engine and transmission fit well, and the shifter will come out of the stock hole if the engine is positioned correctly. Your best bet is to use the search option of this forum. There is a wealth of info already posted. Try searching for my posts (username 74_5.0L_Z), or the posts by SCCA, Alsil, Dr Graham, ...

We have addressed many of the questions you have, and many you don't even know you need to ask.

Good luck,

like Dan says all the info you need and more is on this web site. The 302 swap is really very similar to chevy (only better) so allot of the info on chevy site is relitive rearend, suspention, brakes. Spend lots of time searching for questions you have while you are doing this you will stumble on other thing you didnt think off . I provably spent a6 months gathering info and same to do complete on the car with engine swap. you can check some pic on bros web site under family cars (http://members.shaw.ca/rguido/) I hope to more on complete swap sone I am in the middle of moving and hope to work on it soon . I drove my car all last summer and had a blast you will not regret all the work it takes

Have fun Bob

ssooooo,

I have the tranny, engine mount, sitting angle, and steering covered. However, I have not been able to find anything on what I will have to do as of suspension. Do I need to get stiffer springs, and some stiffer shocks?, Also, is it more preferred or easier, to do a carberated 302 swap, or an efi 302 swap?

My philosophy of building a high performance car is to improve the brakes and suspension before getting too crazy with the power. On my car, I rebuilt all the stock brake system, and added coilovers(200 #/in on rear and 175 #/in on the front) to all four corners with Koni shocks. I then put my fuel injected 5.0L and T5 into the car. Even with the stock 5.0 the car ran like a scalded ape(mid 13's), but the stock brakes were insufficient.

Before I added any more power, I added Mike Gibson's(username SCCA) stage II front brakes, my own custom rear setup, and an adjustable proportrioning valve; the car stops very well.

After doing brakes, I added aluminum heads, cobra intake 24# injectors...

I feel confident that the brakes will be sufficient even if I add two turbos and nitros :D

Get brakes and live longer.
