80LS1T
Ok I have everything working but the ignition/starting circuit! I think I may have cut off some wires that I may have needed? I hooked up the yellow wire to the starter like the wiring diagram says but nothing... no clicking no nothing. Now when I hooked up a power wire to the starter I turns over fine. I did take out the inhibitor relay(I had an automatic tranny) and I think that might be my problem?! How can I by pass all that other stuff like the park/neutral saftey switch, inhibitor relay and switch...so that only the ignition switch is in the starter circuit? Could I just run a wire from the ignition switch down to the starter? Thanks, Guy
Guest greimann
The inhibitor relay is indeed your problem. Go to the socket where that realy was and tie together the two yellow wires that are in the harness at that point. That should allow you to engage the starter with the key switch. 80LS1T
Yeah I knew it was that stupid relay! I just didn't know where to add power to the wires. Now I just need to find those wire in the harness. Do they go into the car or stay in the engine compartment? What I really need to know is how far from that relay box do they go back? I will find out the harnway if nobody knows Note to self..."don't cut wires if your not sure on wether or not you need them!!!" Here I deserve one of these too... :malebitchslap: ! Guest greimann
Those wires should be in the bundle that runs in the right fender. The trace of the yellow starter wire starts at the steering column, runs out to the inhibitor relay through the fender and then back down to the starter. 80LS1T
Great news!!! I found the wire and connected it to the other yellow one and vvvvvvwalllllaaaaaa!!!!!!!! It turns over with the key! It was a good night for me. I sure got a lot done. I have almost every thing hooked up. Just a few odds and ends and then its off to the exhaust shop! One question though... what will make my engine stop when I turn the key off? The fuel will turn off as soon as I turn the key off, so will that kill the engine right away when I turn that off or will it run for a little bit and then slowly die??? Thanks, Guy
Guest greimann
Your computer / ignition system should be wired to get power from the key. Once you turn the key off, the ignition stops firing and that is what turns an engine off. Simultaneously, the fuel pump goes dead, but starving an engine for fuel is not how you shut it off (unless it is a diesel).
Tim240z
Your LT1 PCM harness should have 4 wires that get juice with ignition power and one wire that's hot all the time. The wires are called "Injector #10, #15" or something likie that. If you have it wired thusly, the engine will shut off with the ignition turned to "off". 80LS1T
Hmmmmm I think I will have to check that out. I know I dont have any "extra" wires just hanging off the harness. Although maybe the fuel pump relay, that is in the harness, is wired into those wires that shut off the injectors!??? I will look it up on ALLDATA tonight when I get home. Tim240z
Guy, I wired mine thus: Fuel pump signal from PCM to fuel pump relay 'signal' tab 4 Injector wires to 15amp fuses powered by ignition source. 1 PCM constant power to 15 amp fuse to constant power. Mine is a 94 Z28 PCm, don't know if it makes a difference. Tim
80LS1T
Ok well I'm not sure (yet) but last time I called Street & Performance, they told me that the orange wire off(this is the one that is connected to the fuel pump relay) of the harness needs to be connected to the starter? I have a red wire that comes off the fuse block that is in the harness but I think that goes to the battery+. I think when they said starter they ment ignition source. This would make a lot more sense. He also said that I need a 30 AMP quick burn fuse on that orange wire. So this sounds a lot like your set up Tim. I am still going to check the wiring though! Just to be safe! Guy
Tim240z
I can post the PCM pinout numbers if you like. I would be uncomfortable trusting wire lables/colors, and would rather trace them directly to the PCM. Tim
80LS1T
No that's ok, I have a subscription to ALLDATA Online for both 93' & 96' Camaro Z28's! ALLDATA is great! Thanks, Guy
Guest Anonymous
Guy; You sure are good for a laugh! The drill for the engine shut down really cracked me up, but then that is because I know nothing about the nuances of computer controlled injection YET. I sure hope I don't have symtoms and questions such as this when I do mine.....LOL!
80LS1T
Well I'm glad to be of service! I figured everything out! That orange wire did go to and ignition positive source and that red wire goes to B+. Thanks for all the help Tim and Greimann! Guy
