Guest z1 performance
Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on this. I have a '79 fully built using a T5, and I am conteplating doing the 6 speed conversion, but want to fully understand what is involved. Any help/guidance would be appreciated! Guest Anonymous
A lot, the reason I went with the T -56 was I knew I was going to be drag racing the car and launching with over 400rwh on slicks. If your car has under 350fpt I would stick with the T-5. My car was already carved on so reforming the floorboards while somewhat of a pain wasn`t a travesty. If you absolutly have to have a 6 speed in your car I can point you to the people who custom fabricated my bellhousing.Pm me if you want the info. http://photos.yahoo.com/sss510six
jeffp
I looked into the T56 install for my car, but decided to go with a TKO2 Tremec tranny in stead. The T56 is not rated for torque to the limit my engine is doing. The big thing was the bellhousing. I called Virgil and he wanted 600.00 to do the bell housing. Then you have to buy the tranny and I dont remember the cost on that bad boy but it was expensive. Look on ebay for one. Then you have the clutch, and the flywheel, and the input shaft is short, so you have to install a bearing in the flywheel. Then you will have to do the drive line, and I would suggest getting the flange from the 300ZXT LSD R200 diff to do the drive line with. Spicer makes a companion flange for that flange from the LSD and have the drive line made. The last thing is that you will more then likely have to cut some of the hump in the car away to fit the gear box. The shifter sits back about 1" farther then the T5 you have now, but that should not be a problem, but an advantage. hope that helps. Guest z1 performance
well, we are not 100% sure what the motor will put out just yet, as its only got about 6 miles on it and we need to do some tuning. But. it is completely built top to bottom with the usual goodies, big cam, T04E, large FMIC, etc. The last setup dyno'd at 404 torque at the wheels on a Dynojet 248C, and that was on a bone stock ZX-T motor and head, T3/T4, smaller FMIC, no internals whatsoever. This go around, we not only built the motor, but did the larger turbo and IC, so we'll have to see how it goes. When its all said and done, I am after mid 500's hp and torque, which I think is completely doable, though I will probably need to do one more turbo swap to get it there, and put in the 720's I have had sitting here So, on the Tremec swap, what am I looking at, rough cost wise? Just to get a ballpark

We are using the same program we had on the last motor, though its running quite rich now all across the board.
