starters and flywheels and bells (oh my!)

I have a sbc 350 block and on it is a starter with the offset bolt pattern (not ligned up). So when I went to get a flywheel I got the 14" one because I was told that is the one that works with this starter. Now the problem. It doesn't seem like the flywheel is going to fit inside the bellhousing of my T5 tranny. Is there another bellhousing that I need or am I screwing up somewhere else? btw, the block is drilled and tapped for either starter.

The T5 bellhousing will not work with the 168 tooth flywheel. JTR also says the large flywheel and starter have interference problems with the chassis. You can get a scattershield from Mcleod, and probably Lakewood, that has the 15 degree rotated T5 pattern and it will clear the large flywheel, but car clearance is a different story.

Well, that sucks. Umm, if I get the starter with the lined up bolt pattern, will that work with the smaller flywheel?

Just did a search, looks like this is pretty well covered. I'll try to use my staggered pattern starter as a core for a straight pattern starter. Trouble is I'm out the cost of the flywheel and clutch kit (11" clutch can't go on the 12 3/4 flywheel?).
