Mikelly
...No boys and girls, we aren't talking some devious sex act with a transvestite! I'm talking about crating up the T56 I sold Tom Sumner. Last night I took various materils laying around, plus a 1/4 inch sheet of ply wood and made a BOX, then bolted the tranny into the box in multiple locations in hopes that this thing will NOT move while in the box. I also taped up the tail shaft and vent tube so any of the residual fluid that might have been trapped in a passage (after draining) won't leak out. Today I'm gonna go ahead and get some rope to make handles out of, but MAN THIS THING IS HEAVY! The box probably weighs 20# alone! Alas, after some of the stories I've heard of parts being shipped and then damaged, I feel it was worth it. This trans is in excellent shape and shifts well, so I want to make sure it's new home gets it as it left me. Tom, I'll hopefully get it out this Friday, but certainly by next week! I've got to get ahold of Fedex and make sure the shipping isn't gonna kill me completely... Mike
jeromio
Fedex? That's crazy talk. Try these guys: http://www.rlcarriers.com/index.asp I researched this quite a bit when I had to ship a 4L60E (which by my gluteal calculations is a heavier pig than the T56 - could be wrong though). They were much less expensive than everyone else, had complete online package tracking, were very friendly and helpful and the trans made it all the way from NC to Indiana, door to door, in 3 days flat. Guest Your Car is Slow
All the ones ive seen were just simply strapped down to a large pallate or two.
tsumner
Mike, Try fed ex Freight,It is a lot cheeper than their door to door rates. It will be further for me to drive to pick it up at the depot, but well worth it for the cost savings. This is how Mike V. shipped the trans up from texas. Mikelly
Well Fedex Freight wants $400 to ship it ... That is a no go... I'll try the others. Mike
jeromio
My tab for shipping the A4 from NC to Iowa (or was it Indiana?) was like $90 using R&L. As I recall, the guy wanted to pick it up from the terminal, but the truck picked up the trans from my house. I don't remember exactly, but I recall thinking he was foolish for picking it up because I don't think it saved him much more than $20 or something. Mikelly
I'm whittling it down... So far UPS has it down to $94. If I could get it down to say around $70 I'll do backflips. Mike
mobythevan
Just remember, UPS lost my tranny and it was only a stroke of luck(and the fact that I complained to my companies UPS rep) that they were able to find it. Now, let us all pray for the safe deliverance of this transmission.
jbeech
I bought my T-56 from a fellow in Louisiana and suggested to him that he use a motorcycle tiedown strap and strap it to a pallet. He did, it cost truck freight about 120 bucks to NC. FWIW, that sucker's heavy - 140 pounds plus for just the tranny!
