Guest De Schmaydee
...i've been checking around....and think i'm onto something...... we've been plagued by that worthless spare tire since they quit making the the inflator cans for 'em.....so we pretty much had to have a spare flopping around in the back or just do w/o.......i was thinking....they make co2 and nitrogen tanks to run these "paintball guns" off of.....they are small (will fit where the OEM inflator can was) light weight...and pretty tough....i think they'll work as a substitute for the old inflator cans...... .....any opinions? .............s
Guest greimann
I just carry one of those small compressors, although I do have an original co2 cylinder still charged.
Guest De Schmaydee
....i carried one also (250psi) until i had to use it....i jacked up the car hooked up the pump...ran it for an hour (or more)....you couldnt even tell that i had done it.....i finally drove it to a real pump on the uninflated spare and got it aired up....i doubt if one of those 50¢ pumps would blow it up.........s
David K
You could alway do what i started doing due to a suggestion by Greimann after coming to rescue me one night. Carry a plug kit and small compressor with you at all times. I have a subwoofer mounted in the spare tire compartment, so no spare for me. I have a slim jack, and a folding lug nut wrench. I get a flat, i lift car, pull wheel, plug, install, inflate, drive on.
Tim240z
A trick I used on my old (late 60s) land rover SWB, which had a 2.8 skyline L6 BTW, was to use an A/C compressor as a tire inflator. When I drove on the beach, I would deflate the tires to about 0.8 bar. When I got back to the road, I would plug in my air hose to the quick connect coupler mounted on the front bumper, flick the switch on the dash (to engage the compressor clutch), and inflate my tires. With the engine set at about 1500 rpm, it would inflate all four tires to full pressure in less than 5 minutes!! It would take 15 to 30 minutes with one of those 12Volt compressors, that is, of course, if it didn't crap out!! Worked well for several years!! Guest grinsha
This might work. I havent used one on a car tire but they work ok on motorcycle tires http://www.denniskirk.com/powervendor/details/detail.asp?serverid=OffRoad&PartNo=28392
Guest De Schmaydee
grinsha, ...that looks great.....i would think 2-3 would certainly do it...are the co2 cartridges the same as the ones used for pellet guns? .......s
Guest grinsha
The one i used took the CO2's that work in pellet guns and cheap paintball guns. I havent used the one from denis kirk but the ones in the pic look the same.
RPMS
Plan on using about six or seven cartridges per tire. I understand that the larger rear motorcycle tires can use three cartridges, and a wide automotive tire probably uses much more air than a motorcycle tire. Guest De Schmaydee
.....found one of the co2 bicycle tire inflators...i got the best they had ($25) you can get others for $5-$9 (new)... ......it works well....takes 4 cartridges to fill it up...might be able to get 5 into it but i dont think you need it... ....i bought 25 cartridges for $8 (bb gun cartridges).....took less than 5mins ....really less than that to do it......the cartridges go in about 5-10sec then you screw on another...you could do it in 1 min if the tire was already out and you were hurrying.....this looks like a good deal to me.... appreciate all the replies........ .........s
RPMS
Actually, that's a LOT faster than I'd been led to believe! Sounds like a pretty good solution. Thanks for the correction! I may get one of those myself!
