BayAreaZT
I have a huge fiberglass whale tail on my car that i've been wanting to take off for a while now. I opened up the panel on the hatch and didn't see any rivets or screws. Looks like its just bonded on. Right now it's halfway off and it's only held on along the bottom edge of the window. Can I cut the tail off with a dremel and grind down the rest of the glue and remaining fiberglass?
RPMS
I think your best results would come from using a grinder to remove all but 1/16" inch or so of the fiberglass/bonding substance, then using a disk sander and a light touch to remove the remaining fiberglass. The key would be to remove as much material as you can with an aggressive method, then switch to something gentler when you get close to metal. Perhaps RacerX can recommend something that might melt off the fiberglass instead?
denny411
You may find a surprise of rust underneath.
BayAreaZT
I was able to lift the wing up a little bit to take a look underneath. Looks like there is some surface rust but nothing major. So my best bet is to take a die grinder to it?
