Guest Anonymous
i have a 71 240z with an l26 in it with a 4-speed manual tranny. i wanted to swap in a 5 speed from the later z's but i don't know anything about it. what tranny's can i use? is it a straight bolt on thing? do i have to change the driveshaft or anything else? Cruez
I know the 4 and 5 speeds on the 280's have the same pattern, and I think the 5 speed out of a 280 will bolt right in the 240.. If I'm not mistaken Its a direct bolt in. Except for the T-5, need a driveshaft made for it.... Someone correct me if I'm wrong..
Dan Baldwin
Any will bolt in except the T5 from the ZX turbo. Problem is that the hole in the tunnel is in the wrong place (assuming yours is the "monkey-motion" four-speed, with the straight shifter mounted in a rubber bushing hanging off the back of the tranny). The later 4-speeds and 5-speeds have a bent shifter that mounts to the tranny a bit forward relative to the earlier tranny. You can either butcher the hole, or modify the shifter to offset it aft.
