Guest DaneL24
How hard would it be to convert a P90A head from a hydraulic to a solid tappet valvetrain? Could you just swap the cam towers, cam, rockers, etc. from an earlier head into a P90A? What all would be needed and is it even possible? Lockjaw
I am not certain this is correct, but I think the diameter and thread pitch of the hydraulic lifter is larger then the diameter and pitch of the solid. Perhaps you could get an adapter somewhere, or have the head welded and retapped for the solid stuff, but I think the cost and frustration would far outweigh the ease of just finding a solid head to begin with. CU Zcar
I think I've read some posts that support what Lockjaw said, I think it was suggested you could have the adapters (basically short bolts with the insides drilled and tapped for the smaller thread) made up at your local machine shop once you explain what you want. I also think it would be easier to find another head unless you can't find one or ?? maybe had some port work done to this one already. If it was me, I'd probably look for the solid lifter head first.
Z-Gad
Having converted a hydraulic to mechanical, I say do the mechanical head. You'll come out way ahead in the long run. I had porting and other head work done to mine and that is the reason I went for it. The hydraulic lifters aren't really BAD, but I swapped for a number of reasons, like the cam I chose was reground and the lifters would not extend fully to where they needed to be. It cost me ~$250 to have the 12 mechanical base pieces made...
