Guest ON3GO
Hey guys. i have some 14in crager mag rims on my 280Z, and untill i can find some 16in Watanabe's i gotta live with these. Well my center part of the rim is pretty ugly and so on, so i wanted to paint them. Anybody have any ideas as to what kind of spray paint i should use on these rims? High heat?, any ideas.. Thanks mike
Cruez
A good spray paint should take care of it..like KRYLON (rust preventer) Just make sure to scuff them up pretty good with some sandpaper to get it to stick to the chrome..
ToplessZ
I have not had very good luck with krylon...I have had good luck with the 1500 degree ceramic engine paint from auto zone. It has a nice look to it and hold up well. Requires no primer. Like the above post make sure the chrome is scuffed first. Also have had good luck with the wheel paint they sell at auto zone you should give it a try first. Good luck guy

niceguy678us
I had received a "free" set of rims from a friend that was cleaning out his garage. They were once chrome plated steel wheels that fit a chevy fullsize pickup 10 in. rear, and 8 in. front 15's. I took them to a place where I used to work. It was an industrial pipefitting/fabrication/sandblasting/painting operation for the local refineries. I got them to sandblast all four rims for me for $50, they didn't hardly charge me anything because they don't see things like that come through, it's always pipes and structures they blast and paint. Went to walmart and bought some rattle cans of primer and gloss black krylon. Primed/painted and had new tires mounted with the weights on the inside (not visible) and used chrome lugnuts. They came out so good, I don't want to get another set of rims. I always get asked where I had them "powdercoated"!!!! So you might try the phonebook for a similar place to get yours blasted. Guest Venture-Z
I used the gunmetal wheel paint at Auto Zoneand it looks great! I skuffed the surface of some mesh wheels, and put on several thick coats. They look just like powder coat.
