LS1 / T56 Update #21 - Pictures

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the compliments guys. The finsih detail you see is why I went to Johns Cars to get it done. That is the kind of detail work I saw on his Jaguar conversions. You're right about it looking like it belongs there.

I'm looking to swap out the built 375HP 350 w/ Trickflow aluminum heads and race prepped 700R4 for that same setup in my Z. While I like the cammed, hot rod sound of a built 350, I want the smooth & quiet power of the LS1. After looking at several C5 Vettes, I just have to have those cool engine covers. Do you plan on adding them to give it a more finished look? I want the clean look of that Vette in the Z!!

Gary,

I have been thinking about the C-5 engine covers. They definitely clean up the appearance of the engine bay. I can't use the red ones, though, as they will clash horribly with the red paint on the car. the black ones might be ok if they fit with the other little mods (fuel line routing, etc) that the install required and clear the strut twoer brace I'm going to be installing. One thing at a time. It's the journey that counts even as much as the destination.

I know you have a busy season ahead of you but if you get down this way please know that you're welcome to stop by for an up & personal tour of the car. Good Luck!!

Phantom,

I too have to cry out for a WRITE UP. Your car is incredible; congrats on having one nice ride.

Seriously, when can we expect some kind of a write up on everything: eng, trans, diff....ESPECIALLY on the A/C system, what on the A/C system was kept and what on the A/C system was done away with! I like the fact that the A/C compressor was kept on the driver's side.

The LS1 is definately the next step in the evolution of the V8Z: very well done 8)

Kevin,

AC system has new dryer, compressor, and hoses. Kept the original condenser & evaporator/expansion valve combo. Used the Freeze 12 for refrigerant. It is an environmentally friendly substitute for R-12. Compressor is a special compact, high-efficiency Japanese unit. One of the few non-Datsun, non-Chevy parts in the car.

Phantom,

What about the Heater/AC Vacuum Control System in the Dash. I noticed from the pictures that you got rid of the Magnet Valves on the Driver's Fender: what about the Heater/AC Vac.Cont.System-did you keep it as well?

All that stuff pretty much just had to do with adjusting engine speed when AC was on/off. The LS1 computer took over that job. The stuff under the dash for door positions, etc. just needed a vacuum source which also was provided from the LS1. Also got rid of the vacuum reservoir bottle.

Wow, you've really been studying that one picture.

Who performed this engine swap for you, or did you do it yourself? I was looking into building one if these also, before I knew someone in DFW had already done it, but dont have time or room to do the actual engine swap. Every thing else I have the facilities to handle.
