azguy
Has anyone converted a 83 280zxt? Just wondering if the mounts from JTR work with it too?
danc
azguy: The JTR mounts are not for a ZX. Lots of guys have made their own, and there are a couple of companies out there who offer mounts for the ZX. John's in Dallas and Motorsport Auto are the 2 I'm aware of. I have a converted 83, and used the MSA mounts. I did take a hard look at John's, and talked to him on the phone a few times, but concluded he was substantially higher for a few hoses and some clamps. I can tell that his "show-me-tell-me" primer is a total waste of money and time to read! Do read the JTR conversion manual several times. While many of the conversion instructions do not relate to the ZX, the overall philisophy and process are the same. Suggest you use the search engine on this site and search for John's mounts or MSA mounts to get other opinions. There are several guys on the forum who have converted ZXs who will help you along the way. My conversion has been running since last November, and got lots of much needed help here. Good luck! Guest greimann
If you are handy, you can make your own fairly simply. They mainly consist of a spacer or plate to adapt the bolt pattern. The motor mounts are in the same plane as the cross member, so there is really nothing fancy to be made.
Guest Anonymous
I have a '83NA 2+2 that will be receiving a 350 and muncie 4 speed later next month. I plan on fabricating everything possible on my own...primary reason is I'm broke (yes that explains the 4spd) With that said I hope to document the whole process to include drawings of motor mounts, etc and put them on the web. At least that the intention...if there's any kinda interest I might even make mounts for a small donation
danj
I have an 83ZXT 2+2 that is getting a 383 sbc using the MSA mounts. The person doing the fabrication work said he didn't think the JTR would work well. There are still some issues even with using the MSA. We're having to make some compromises on distributor type, intake manifold height and of course header fabrication on the driver side . These are issues caused by clearance limitations. They're not all resolved yet so I can't advise you specifically how we resolved these problems yet . Apparently the 83 280ZXT offers a few more challenges than the earlier Z's, making the swap to the 350 sbc a little more challenging. There have been several others who post to this site that have converted the 83 280ZXT, so perhaps they will lend some insight .
