THUNDERZ
Does a hi performance ignition sysytem make much of a difference?
Lockjaw
I have a 300ZX coil on my car, and it sparks to well over 20 psi with stock gapped Bosch dual electrode plugs for an M3. They are platinum plugs FWIW, and yes I know an M3 is a BMW. The heat range is the same as what Nissan calls for.
Guest MistressMotorsports
Any ignition is better than an old points and condenser system. But if you have a later model stock setup, you are probably good to well over 7000 rpm. My 3.0 stroker L6 with 13:1 compression and a .600 lift cam is running into the low 7000's with an MSD Blaster coil, a stock ballast resistor, and a Pertronix conversion inside the stock distributor. No MSD 6AL or anything fancy like that. If you are planning on 8000 rpm, then you might consider something a little better than stock. THUNDERZ
I have a L28 in my 260z. It is bored, head ported street/race cam, triple carbs, exhaust header and exhaust. I just was wondering if I would benefit in power by upgrading the only engine factor that is stock(coil + spark control. Jim
