Bluto
Hi all, first post here tho i have been lurking for abit, Awesome site!. lookin for something new to wrap my brain around while im at work and thought that the awd with the rb's would be fun. no, im not an engineer but i am a competent mechanic with fabrication experience who likes to daydream about interesting stuff. I have seen the pics from the japenese mag and have seen a few members mention that there were a coupla threads with the awd subject on this site but i havent been able to find em, if someone could give me a good search field/forum it would helpful since you cant search phrases and you can only search individual boards. or a link to another site. but anyway.. one other thing that i was wondering about is runing the awd setup with just rwd..? ie buy the motor/tranny with awd since it is getting to be a common ebay find and doin a stage one, get it in and runin.. stage two, get awd nutty. Sport compact car magazine july '03 mentioned those 2f2f idiots doin something along these lines so they could do more spectacular burnouts/drifts ~ugh morons! sorry.. anyway.. that might be a possiblity to someone who has awd dreams instead of goin with a seperate tranny setup? again.. awesome site and thanks to those who have come before me (and taken pictures.. haha)
j260z
the problem with the awd scenario is that in order to get the front diff to line up with the front wheels you have to move the engine so far forward that it screws up the weight distribution in the car. not to mention that you would probably lose most of your foot room on the passenger side due to the transfer case. Bluto
wow, dont hit esc after you have a paragraph or two typed out! hah j260z, thanks for the reply.. I dont think the wieght distribution thing would be too bad but i guess there is no way to know for sure with out mocking it up =/ As for the passenger room issue i dont imagine it could be too awful since the scanned pics of a z with awd are of a jdm rhd z and even if it was tight it still couldnt be much worse than a miata hah! reworking the front suspension should be the interesting part either with gt-r bits or something else. anyway, thanks again for the reply, i was begining to wonder.. hehe
BRAD D
Well this would be a pain in the a$$ but it could be done. If you dont know the front diff is built into the RB26's oil pan. So you could cut up the pan and move the diff more to the front of the motor weld it up and just lengthen the driveshaft.
