ZR8ED
Here is another Q. always mulling some new mod in my head.. lots of guy want dual exhaust, but lament about the gas tank being in the way of mufflers. How about if your mufflers were in the tranny tunnel (not sure how..this isn't the q) and you ran your duals on either side of the diff, then have them make outboard turns then straighten out and go straight out the back.. ok the prob is the gas tank is in the way.. ok well enough.. What if you had a heat shield..(or in my case a future belly pan).. would it provide enough protection for the gas tank? I"m still building this heat shield, and it made me wonder if it may open up some opportunities for exhaust routing in the future.. ie when this belly pan doesn't help my exhaust fume problem, and i end up changing the exhaust anyways. thoughts? would I cook my gas anyways?.. my current muffler is not far away from the gas tank in the stock location, so... some aluminum? sheilding?. Just thinking out loud today..
Synlubes
Scott, The easiest and cleanest install of duals (on an early Z) I`ve seen. . . A fuel cell mounted (centered) and the exhaust came out thru the bumper shock wholes in the rear panel.(bumpers were removed) Super clean, you could not even see the exhaust from the rear (except where it came under the diff). What was seen from the rear were two nice big exhaust pipes sticking out. 1 on each side.
BRAD D
sO YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT JUST BEFORE THE TIRES WITH THE EXHAUST TIPS? CAPS LOCK Because the tank would be in the way for the pass side exhaust exit. My fuel pump is beside my tank bolted to the spare tire well, near the old dynomax ultra flow . So I was going to make a heat shield too.
ZR8ED
not infront of the tires.. that would be cool, but I have not figured a way to make it work well...and look right. I mean run the right side pipe under the tank.. yea its low, but no where near as low as my front air dam.. I'm just messing around with some ideas.. I've seen them go under the tank before..just wondering about heat.. I personally don't need true duals.. (v6 single turbo) I'm fighting the dreaded exhaust fumes in the cabin, and I'm desperate now. I'm doing the rear belly pan to try and help fumes from getting in..I may be forced to redo my brand new exhaust as well.. (not happy with that) Spent a fortune on new seals etc... some of these mods have side benifits as well, but that is not my main goal.. no fumes... ok ok so a rear belly pan would look pretty cool... even if it doesn't fix my exhaust probs.
