Guest Child_inblack
I have a early 1974 260z. it has a 2.6 obviously. my dillema is that im not sure if i should stroke mine out and buy a cam and such for it or if i should get a rebuilt turbo 2.8 and not waist my time with the 2.6. i only have about 3 grand to spend. any input would be helpful, thanx. Lockjaw
Get the 2.8. You cannot safely bore out the 2.6 to a 2.8 if memory serves. Even if you could, you would have to get custom forged pistions, since I have never seen a 3mm over replacement cast piston for any nissan L6 engine. If for some reason you think 3mm over forged pistons are ok, then do the 2.8 anyway. By the way, all you need is the block and pistons, you have everything else to make a 2.8 with the 2.6 bottom end. Tim240z
Get a JY 2.8T engine and rebuild that if you really want, or just drop it in, or find a running ZXT and do the swap and junk the body afterwards. That's what I'm doing. Found a ZXt for $700 and I'm driving it around until I'm done with the V8 swap in the other Z, then I'll know that the drivetrain is good when I swap out the turbo engine. DAW
I agree with the others, sell the 2.6 as a running motor to someone with a basic 240Z so that they can put their carbs and head on it to get a higher compression ratio, more displacement, and retain their good carbs (in fact, their head with manifolds attached can be transfered as a unit to the 2.6 shortblock). You then go out and find an L28ET. I've bought totalled 280ZXT cars for just slightly more than I've seen engines go for and that way you get the matched fuel pump, ECCS, trans, R200 diff with CVs, wheels, etc, etc. All of which are useable or sellable. Overall, you'll come out ahead, or with the minimal amount invested and the smoothest swap. DAW
