Guest y2khayabusa
I have a 75 280z with a 79 350. I originally had a TH350. But we all know thats a mistake from the begining! Then I went to a 700R4! I had to much HP for that. Now I just pulled that out, and now I'm putting in a 91 WC T5. The problem is the center of my crank is 2 1/2 in. and the center of the flywheel is 2 in. Could somebody tell me what flywheel to use with a stock T5 clutch and an early style block? Thanks, Rob
Guest greimann
You will need a 53 tooth flywheel GM PN #14085720. edit: Ya, 153 teeth!
Guest y2khayabusa
Thats what I have is a 153 tooth flywheel. It came out of a 91 Camaro with the transmission. Anybody else have a suggestion? Thanks, Rob
JoeinCA
53 tooth? I think he meant 153 tooth.... y2k what do you mean by too much horsepower for the 700r4? how much power are you making? Just wondering because i plan on using the 700r4. but the car is going to be a daily driver... though i believe i already have a bit over 400 HP... thanks, Joe
JoeinCA
there is a difference between the early style (pre 1986) 153 tooth flywheels and the later 153 toothers. at least i have seen that when 153 tooth flywheels are described there is usually a distinction made between early model and late model. but that's all i can tell you.. Joe.
Guest y2khayabusa
Joe, I'm running about 435 hp. It was a stock 700R4 with about 90,000 miles on it. As soon as I hit 3800 rpm, the tranny would let loose. I'm sure if you were to have one built it would be fine. Do you know if I can use a pre 86 flywheel with a T5? ANYBODY? Thanks, Rob
Guest thepenguin99
a wc t5 isnt going to handle that much power unless you have a really light foot
Guest y2khayabusa
I do realize that! I was kinda hopeing it would be fine for a while by keeping the stock tires on the car. When it does go, I know of a place that can rebuild it for $1300. Then it should be ok :|
Guest greimann
I bolted the before mentioned flywheel to a '78 chevy crank and put a 10.4" clutch on it. Look here for flywheel selections and PN#'s http://www.flatlanderracing.com/flyflexgmsb.html Also lookie here too, Page 5: http://www.s-series.org/htm/tech/GMPerfParts/076-081.pdf
80LS1T
a wc t5 isnt going to handle that much power unless you have a really light foot A built-up WC T5 might hold up? I would look for a T56 though. A stock T56 out of a 94-97 Camaro is rated at 450ft-lbs! Guy
Heavy Z
Do you know if I can use a pre 86 flywheel with a T5? ANYBODY? My 327 is running an '85 non-wc T5 and 153 tooth flywheel also from '85, not sure if that helps. I've heard a lot of talk about these trannies being weak but after a year of hard driving (pushing 400 or so HP w/ McLeod clutch) I have no complaints. The real test will be to see how it handles a 100 shot of nitrous.
2Forty
I guess I don't understand the logic here. You can get the 700R4 rebuilt for less than the 1300 you say the T5 will need down the road. Unless you like rowing thru the gears. You could also save the cost of getting the T5, clutch and attending parts. To each his own.
