2Forty
Is the Caprice tailhousing absolutely necessary when using the JTR transmission mount? I'm getting ready to order a rebuilt transmission and the builder says he can accomodate my request. Is the only advantage exhaust pipe clearance and routing? Thanks
DavyZ
This was discussed eons before and as I remembered it, it was necessary BUT very very hard to find. I don't recall what the reason was; I'm going manual so I don't file that info away. Davy
mas28O
NO, you do not need it. exhaust pipe clearance is tight but ok. I have 2.5 exhaust pipe on each side of the trans. But if you can get it then go for it. Mike
JoeinCA
Do you happen to have a picture of how your exaust is routed? I have been hesitant to install the transmission crossmember... thanks, joe
Guest thepenguin99
The caprice tailhousings arent hard to find...at least not where I live. Most police departments use/used the caprices and after they are worn out are sold at auction. You can bet that if this is the case in your area there is one salvage yard that has loads of the cars. I know in Memphis that salvage yard is inexpensive auto parts. I dont think they ship parts though.
mas28O
JoeinCA I will try to get a pic, or you can just look at it yourself. Only 15 miles away. Mike
