Hey, I have seen a 1974 260 for sell and was wondering if it can be as light as the 240 or should I just try and find a 240

All replies would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

is it the early or late production model? if it is the early model with the 240 style bumpers and front turn signals then i would say yes but if it has the clunky 280 style bumpers then the answer is a resounding no! the later model had large crash bumpers, a beefier frame, larger diameter struts and thicker, stronger stub axles. just to name a few changes. :)

All that sounds like a good thing to me. As for the large crash bumpers they are history. Replaced with fiber glass pieces from MSA. The factory hood is gone too, replaced by a light weight fiber glass cowl induction model.

When I am done I will have my Z-8 weighed and then maybe we can see that the weight diff between the 240 and my Z-8 will not be an issue. Besides the 280 has to weigh a whole lot less than a 67-68 Camaro and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one of those babies. The weight differences is way over rated in my opinion.

Hey, guys. Let me say thanks first of all.

I have done many searches for the weights of the various cars and things but I can never seem to find a straight answer except that the cars kept gettin heavier every year. But i can never seem to find out if the 260 can weigh as little as the 240 or if the 73 can weigh as little as the 70. I need straight answers quick so I can make my desicion. I think the whole purpose of building these hybridz is to have a light car with a lot of power. So I don't want to invest time and money and still have a weight ceiling that I can't pass or never have my car as light as a 240 could be

PLease let me know as much as you can as soon as you can

Thank you

from what i can find the 240zs were 2355 lbs, the early 260z was 2499 lbs and the later model 260z was 2605 lbs. the only problem is that light does not always mean strong. i would not run a z with good horsepower through the 240z stub axles, half shafts or r180 diff. the other difference is that the 240 and early 260s both came with 4 speed transmissions which i would not use either.

i hope this helps you make up your mind. :-D

The early 260Z like I owned was nearly identical to the 240Z in every respect and came with slim bumpers like a 240Z except the engine size was bigger--it even had a pathetic 4 speed!

The late-in-the-year 260Z was like a 280Z and had the big bumpers and the increase in weight of course, but not the fuel injection or the larger 2.8L engine of the 280Z.

If the 260Z is smog legal for an engine swap in your area, and you have a good one available to you, by all means--pick it up and do the power thing!!!!!!! :D
