Guest ZmeFly
hell guys i have an 83 ZXT with the P90A head. i have what seems to be valve clacking but as i inspected the head as best i can, it seems that the lifters are all good. pulled all the lifters out and none of them seemed to bleed down over night. still held there pressure very well. what i did notice and this is with the rocker cover off. yes it did make a huge mess but i wanted to see or try to see what was going on, that the culprit noise maker is actually a rocker going bad. it seems that the lash pad is extremely warn, (engine has almost 180K on it) and it seems to be at times actually smacking the cam lobe once the cam rolls around its highest point. another thing i noticed is when the engine is cool it will not do the loud clacking but will once warm. there is always a slight little tick tick tick tick, but once warm and when im done driving and the car is cooling down it will become very loud, starting out softly at first the louder and louder, but then quiet right down again. i can also stop this by revving the engine. like i said before though there is always a barely audible ticking. can either warn lash pads and or rockers cause this? any insight would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Cruez
I would think that the pads would be the culprit. If I was going through the expense of replacing those.... I would get a new cam at the came time...
Guest ZmeFly
but the pads and the cam are looking like they need to be renewed so i will do that as well. i fixed the collapsed lifter though, which saved me a bundle.
Guest Anonymous
Hey Zmefly, Since you have a P90A, and you said it goes away when revved up, I think you have hydraulic pivot (aka lifter) problems...or issues I should say (since it's not a show stopper) I had a P90A, and it did virtually the same thing.
