Kennysgreen280zt
Hey all, quick question about the turbo head bolts. Are they re-usable once they have been torqued and then taken off? I am looking at changing the headgasket in my car and wanted to know if I had to buy new ones. thanks!! ~Kenny
Drax240z
Generally the consensus is no they are not. I've done it numerous times without incident however. I guess it depends on exactly how much you are trying to get out of your engine power-wise.
Cody 82 ZXT
I tell Ya I've done and made decent power without any headgasket issues. Technically speaking I wouldn't recommend it.
Guest szlash280z
I have put 60 miles on my engine with reused head bolts. no head gasket problems either.
80LS1T
If the head was originally TTY(torqued-to-yeild) then you can't reuse the bolts because they have already been stretched to their limits. However if they are not TTY then you COULD reuse them but I still wouldn't. I'm not sure about the datsun head and if they were TTY. I dont think they are so you should be ok. I think TTY is kind of a new thery behind torqueing bolts. If you plan to make some serious power then I would upgrade to som ARP bolts. If this is just a lightly modified turbo engine then I wouldnt worry about it too much. How much is a set of head bolts? Guy
Kennysgreen280zt
I think I payed $60 or so when I bought them about a year ago. Should have just gone with the ARP's.... Summit has them for like $125.... Thanks for all the replies, I think I will actually try to get a little extra cash together and get the ARP's before the car goes back together. later! ~Kenny

I used then last time I had to put on a new HG.
