Flywheels? How light should the be?

I have done a search can couldn’t find much info on this.

I have to get a flywheel made for my car as I can not find one which will suit it.

I might as well get a lighter one made.

What are the effects of a lighter flywheel?

What should it weigh?

What happens if its too light or too heavy?

What should it be made from?

And any other information about flywheels would be nice!

Thanks

Simon

I'm going to be an expert by the time i finish my car!! There is so much to it!!

well i dont know too much about flywheels but i'll tell you what i know.

when you get a lighter flywheel the engine will revv faster, it wont gain any power but more of it will get to the wheels. if it is too light the car will have a hard time idling and if it is too heavy acceleration will suffer and you might end up lugging the motor.

Motorsport Auto sells high performance flywheels. their flywheel weights 13.5 lbs. and is made of modular steel and aluminum. im pretty sure that they ship out of the country.

heres the link. http://www.zcarparts.com click on the online store. its in there
