trying to get something correct....

I've been looking up Skyline engines for the longest time but just tonight a friend of a friend is trying to tell me that a R34 Skyline comes stock with a Twin Turbo V8... I think he seen someone do an engine swap in a Super Street Magazine or something... But he's really sure that they come STOCK that way, and I'm trying to prove him wrong. I hope I'm not going retarded but I'm pretty sure they come stock with a Twin/Single Inline 6. Any type help would be appreciated. I hope I could tell him the CORRECT information to his face hahahaha.

Thanks Kenneth K.

I'm no skyline expert, but you are right and your friend is wrong. ;)

The R34 came with a RB26DETT. (twin turbo 2.6L inline 6)

The R33 and R32 came with a R25DET (single turbo inline 6)

Like I said I am no expert, but I pretty sure this info is correct. Definately correct regarding the inline 6 part! (I'm not 100% certain that the R33 and the R32 both came with the RB25)

There is not currently any Stock Skyline with a V8, much less a TTv8.

All GT-R Skylines from R-32 through R-34 came with a RB26dett. The RB25det was available in the GS-t's and the awd GS-t's.

The touring car championship in Japan currently has the Skylines running some form of V8 - but that is a rules issue and I'm not that familiar with them.

So all STOCK Skyline GT-R's,(R-32, R-33, and R-34) had a RB-26dett.

The STOCK Skyline GS-t's had a RB25det. Refer to Drax's post about what the disignations mean. Both are 6 cylinders, the RB26 is a twin turbo, the RB25 is a single turbo.

Skylines never had a V8 from the factory for the models you are asking about. I am fairly sure they never had a V8 in the history of the Skylines - all 6 cylinders.

Just for the record there were 4 cylinder Skylines aswell.

If we start with the more modern ones (1980+) we had:

R30 - Powered by L20s, L20ETs, FJ20ETs, FJ20s, L28s and I think the L18.

R31 - RB20DE, RB20DET, LD28, RB30E

R32 - RB20DE, RB25DE, RB20DET, RB26DETT, CA18DE, RD28

R33 - RB20DE, RB25DE, RB25DET, RB20DET, RB25DETT

R34 - RB25DE, RB25DET, RB26DETT

R32 models were the GXI, GTE, GTS, GTS25, GTS-t, GTS-4 and of course the GTR.

R33s and R34s had the GTS25, GTS25-t and GTRs mainly

I think this is pretty much correct.

yeah, the supras have switched from the 3SGTEs to the V8 that comes stock in the japanese equivalent of our LX400 or whatever the V8 lexus is called... there is a good article in a recent super street on the one you mentioned, which was the champion car with the 3SGTE and is kickin even more but with the new V8. this engine of course is no big block, i forget the exact displacement numbers, but they have cylinders with small displacement, but lots of them, works out good for torque or HP, depending on the cylinder demensions. I know one of the JGTC skylines is still running an RB26TT engine, but i dont know what the others are using, this one with the RB is just hardly trailing the supra in points, or atleast thats how it was when i checked up on those things last...
