Just thought i'd throw my proposed setup out there, for some comments.

csb 350 ~350-400hp perhaps a 150 shot of NAAWWZZ man =)

th350 trans w/shift kit

high stall torque converter (wild cam)

not sure on diff setup yet... large domestic vs. r200... thoughts?

big slicks/drag rads. probly going to have to flare the back end.

MSA mounts/driveshaft.

Any ideas/tips for the first time swapper, and a first time domestic guy =)

Thanks

Jason

there is alot more to plan.

what do you plan to use this car for? realistically? daily driver or trailered race car?

decide that and then start brainstorming and reading and general info grabbing...

I am almost thinking that my engine is too radical for a daily driver. but i'll daily drive it and decide from there.

that plan is so vague that it reminds me of the guy who said on graduating high school(Ive got my whole life planed out "IM GOING TO BECOME FILTHY RICH AND MARRY A PRETTY GIRL AND LIVE TO BE 120 YEARS OLD"

well like in the above plan.... its the little details about how youll do it, the costs and effort involved, how long it will take, who can or will help you, and

what youll use to do it , the problems you run into, and how you solve them, that potentially screw things up!

if your NOT particularly interested in tearing the car apart and learning how to put it back togeather with dozens of modifications including learning how to CORRECTLY BUILD ENGINES,WELD,BUILD/MODIFY,SUSPENSIONS,FRAME MODS,and your NOT into having the car sit for 5 month too several years while you do it ,my advise would be to buy a car thats already converted or buy a corvette, with a high hp engine already in it, youll surely have less money invested and less time wasted,in the long run. BUT IF YOU WANT TO GAIN SKILLS,KNOWLEDGE,AND PRIDE OF DOING THE WORK YOURSELF,THEN JUMP ON IN,READ ALL THE BACK POSTS AND GET READY TO HEAR YOUR WALLET WIMPPER IN AGONY :D

YES YOU CAN BUILD A KILLER (Z) but its not going to happen in one month and its not likely to happen on a reasonable budget, and its not likely to cost anywhere near what you expect going into the project!

most of the guys may not admit it but by the time you get the car correctly rebuilt, with a good high hp engine youll more than likely have $10,000PLUS and at least a year into the project!! you need to sit down and make a list of all the mods and the goals you have for that car, then make a list of whats involved in each mod and set a budget and time frame for each mod, ask questions, buy tools , make friends, and follow throught on those goals/mods in a logical well thought out plan!

Ive done it 8 or 9 times now,(Z SWAPS) and Ive built/restored and modified over 37 corvettes in the last 34 years,(IVE LOST COUNT SIMPLY BECAUSE ITS ALMOST A WEEKLY THING FOR THE LAST 34 YEARS) ITS A HOBBY FOR GUYS WHO ENJOY SOLVING PROBLEMS,WELDING,SEARCHING FOR PARTS,BUILDING AND FITTING CUSTOM MADE ASSEMBLYS and doing BODY WORK;

JUST SO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR GETTING INTO! AND YES THE END RESULTS ARE NORMALLY WORTH THE EFFORT AND COSTS INVOLVED

Hey, re-read what Grump said.... I bought a 240Z with a fairly well done V8 pre-existing. I identified the following needs:

Remount motor to JTR spec $200

replace radiator $100

add modest HP (probably means LT1 or LS1) $2000

add T-56 tranny $1500

new drive shaft $200

4 wheel vented disk brake package $700

5-lug hubs $300

16" wheels and tires $800

new springs and struts $500

fix very minor rust $200

rust treat underbody and normal problem areas $200

Paint $3000

update interior $400

Right there is your $10,000 Done fairly cheaply, but with you doing a lot of the work.... If you buy new, expensive parts, it will be Significantly more, if you do all the work well, and find great delas on material and parts, noticably less.

Still worth doing, in my opinion. If you pay $4000 for a nice Z, and put $15,000 into it.... you have a very nice car that will kick the snot out any car in the $20,000 to $40,000 range, and probably beyond.

first off i'll say my car is off the road for the whole winter, and i've already started strippin her down. My cousin is helping me with all the cosmetic body work, and my uncle.. a hotrod guy, is helping me with frame strengthening. This is going to be a weekend warrior/drag car, it will be street driven... but not daily driven, so wild cams and expensive tires are not a big concern.

Sounds like he's got it well thought out guys!!! Bailout keep us posted, espically on that frame rail repair, a lot of guys have spent countless hours on rust repair.

With the amount of power you'll be putting down I doubt a stock 200R dif is going to hold up long. I baby mine with a full roller 350 putting out around 400 +/- HP at the crank, so I don't break parts.

I'm starting my V8 Z swap in a few weeks, it's going to be alot of work, but I love to tinker so despite any and all hard ships along the way, I'm ready for them :). Have some extra pocket money, so why not make one sexy beast of a car? :)
