Guest jwelch
I bolted my new Vortec heads on and noticed they each have a threaded hole above the sparkplug holes. Are these waterjackets? I don't belive they would be freeze plugs. Can I just block these off with threaded pipe fittings? If they are waterjackets can I improve engine cooling by running them back into the system with hoses Thanks
Tim240z
It's been a while since I looked at my Vortecs, but I don't believe that they are anything important. I don't remember blocking anything off. Tim
Guest jwelch
My edelbrock intake also has 2 extra water ports near the back. It mentions in the installation manual that it can be used with water ports on some heads to reduce overheating problems. Has anyone tried this with Vortecs? Thanks
dmyntti
The holes in your heads go into the cooling passages in the head. One would normally be used for a water temp guage and the other would just be plugged. I installed Vortec heads on my truck and did not do anything with the rear coolant bypass and have had no trouble with the truck overheating.
