Guest DaneL24
I'll probably be putting an electric cooling fan into my '71 240, and I have a question about the fan wiring. Now I know the fan is turned on and off by a thermoswitch...but do I simply put the thermoswitch inline with the electric fan motor circuit...or do I have to wire it so the thermoswitch activates a relay to turn on the fan...and the actual fan motor has a different power source that is routed through the relay. I know the fan motor uses up a lot of juice...just not sure I would want all that juice flowing right through the thermoswitch. Thanks in advance. SleeperZ
You are correct. You do not want the fan current running through the thermoswitch. Just run a relay off a fusible link or a high current fuse to the fan, and switch the relay with the thermoswitch off a normal source from the fusebox. I prefer to wire it through a non-switched source so I can run the fan with the ignition off.
