72zcar
hey, I have a 68 327 and sunday I picked up a wc T-5 w/ bell housing and flywheel out of a 89 camaro that had a 350 in it. Question is will the flywheel from the camaro work with the 327? I have been told since the 327 is a 2 piece rear seal and the camaro is a 1 piece that the flywhell will not work...but I thought I better ask you guys to make sure. thanks bob
Guest fordguy57
I have a mid-80's IROC flywheel behind my 67 327 in Datsun 280ZX with a Lakewood bellhousing, IROC PP, Ford hipo clutch disk and Ford toploader and modified Ford aluminum driveshaft. If it doesn't work, somebody forgot to tell me.... Mike H
DavyZ
I'm using the 53 tooth flywheel with a Camaro T5 bellhousing on an older 350 with the two piece real main seal---fits fine... Davy
72zcar
thats cool... but one thing. The small block changed from 2 piece to 1 piece in 1986. Are you guys using a early pre 86 camaro flywheel? If so maybe thats why it fits..not sure..hmmm now im really confused
Guest fordguy57
That is possible. It has been a couple years since I put it together so can't remember for sure what year the flywheel is. However, I don't recall every seeing summit or Jeg's list 2 different SBC flywheels with the notation of year differences.... If there is more than one kind, why would that not be indicated? Guest fordguy57
I was wrong. Summit does indeed list a different flywheel for the 86 and up. Mine probably is an 85 then... If I were you, and you determine for sure it is incorrect for motor, just sell it on ebay and buy another...
Guest Rhettdude1
The SBC with a one-piece rear main (1986 and up) uses a different flywheel than the two piece (pre 1986) so the flywheel will not work. The bolt pattern is smaller on the 1986 and up version. Just change the flywheel to a pre 1986.

I am happy Davy

I am looking at this one http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDetails.asp?SourceArea=&SourcePage=SEARCHRESULTS&MfrCode=ZTR&MfrPartNumber=MU561&PartType=244&PTSet=C Has anyone used the Perfection Hytest brand ? 72zcar
hmmm, I want to buy my clutch set but i'm not 100% sure what to buy. Is the question too stupid? maybe i need to reword it... basic ? is: 68 327 w/ 89 wc t-5 ..do i buy a clutch set for a 89 camaro? I am assuming I do but not sure, thanks, bob
Tim240z
Hmmm...maybe try calling a couple of clutch manufacturers. Let them know what you have, and ask them what you need. You don't need to buy the parts from them, but they will probably give you the most reliable info. Tim
72zcar
hmmm, anyone else . I think "maybe" I will buy the clutch set for a 89 camaro since that is what the tranny came out of... sound reasonable to me I have the old pressure plate and disk from the camaro... the pressure plate bolt holes do line up with the new flywheel and the disk seems to fit fine. hmmm
Tim240z
If the PP bolts up to the new flywheel, and the disk fits ok, then you should be fine. Are you just buying stock replacement? Seems like an appropriate time to upgrade to a tougher clutch? Tim
72zcar
Are you just buying stock replacement? Seems like an appropriate time to upgrade to a tougher clutch? Yeah stock repacement, I'm not sure what else to get..heck i am not even sure stock is right..haha. The 327 is stock so I am thinking if the cluch set is good enough for a 89 camaro with a 5.7 it should be fine for my 327. Not sure

Not sure 82-92 F-bodies never came with a manual transmission and 5.7L engine.
72zcar
82-92 F-bodies never came with a manual transmission and 5.7L engine. I looked here http://www.faribault.k12.mn.us/brian/camaro/specs.htm#engine3rdv8 And I see you are right... the 350 in 82-92 camaro only came with auto. So the motor that I left behind was a 305.. kinda glad i did not buy the motor now. But all this does not answer my question but thanks for the informatoin, may come in handy in the future. Can someone tell me what clutch set to buy pleeaasee..
Guest AJ78
I'd recommend looking on thirdgen.org to see what those guys are using.
