Guest zfan
I have a 355 sbc with a Full MSD ignition system. I recently figured out that my Msd mechanical distributor has the bushing, Blue I believe that gives me 28 degrees timing in the distributor. From what I have always heard it is not good to run that much timing in the distributor. I'm only running 7-8 degrees initial. Should I place one of the other bushings in that gives 18 degrees timing and bump initial up to 18 or leave it alone. The car is not hard to start it just has me wondering why it was set up that way. Anyone familiar with the MSd distributors or otherwise feel free to give your thoughts and opinions. Mike
Mike C
IME, it is too much initial advance you want to avoid. There is no trouble with running that much advance in the distributor. That is the whole point in making the adjustable bushings. The GM distributors are limited to about 20 degrees of mechanical advance, this requires 18-20 initial to get 38-40 total which can make the car hard to start.
