cygnusx1
Which route should I take for making boost adjustments on my stock 83Turbo motor. 1) Grainger Valve. 2) Adjustable length wastegate actuator rod. What are the advantages/disadvantages? Any photos of your adjustable boost setup? Thanks. Dave C.
Guest bastaad525
do the grainger valve main reason I can think of is it should build boost faster and give you more power under the curve the grainger valve keeps pressure off of the wastegate actuator, letting it stay closed longer and the turbo to spool faster with a threaded wastegate arm, pressure acts on the wastegate instantly and it opens steadily as boost pressure builds up, bleeding that pressure off and causing the turbo to spool more slowly. plus.. I think it'd be easier to install the grainger, just my .
Afshin
I would also go with the grainger valve (ball and spring) for the reasons outlined by Bastaad. I does help the turbo spool up faster. However, I imagine the would be less spiking with the actuator rod length controling boost. I prefer to have quicker spool up. Also it is easier to adjust the grainger valve, specially if you get a cockpit adjustable one which are still relatively cheap and work as well as most electronic boost controllers. This link is to a nice sports compact review on the electronic controllers and one grainger type valve. http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0207scc_boostcontrol/
