Guest Anonymous
Ok, I've been reading a lot and thinking this one through. I have a 69' 327 to drop in my 72' 240. I've read so much about the T56 and the R200. Both are certainly great accessories for the V-8 conversion. Can anyone suggest a good alternative (better fitting) transmission? I don't want to spend a month cuss'n and bending my uni-body. Also - the R200. Good sources? Wrecking yards? This project will begin to happen when the snow flies. I want to prepare now. Thanks
Guest greimann
I really like the world class T5, which can be found in '88 and up Camaros and Firebirds. I'm running it in a ZX behind a ~400 ft-lb motor and have 50k trouble free miles on it. A stock one legger 3.7 R200 and street radials limit the amount of shock load that can be transmitted. If you want to bolt up drag radials and a LSD, better go with Tremec T3550, which is an aftermarket (stronger) version of the T5.
Tim240z
Longg, I am using the T56 with the LT1 and apart from cutting the oem cross member out, I didn't do any pounding. Also keep in mind that my project started out with a 700R4, then a 200 4R, now finally a T56. All fit withouts fits o' pounding. Tim
Phantom
If you decide to go with the T-56 - that .5:1 6th gear is really nice - you'll probably want a 3.7:1 LSD R200. You can get them out of '88-'89 300ZX's. Wrecking yard is good source. Check the links & yellow pages. You can probably find a yard that specializes in Z's somewhere in your area. T-56 is a relatively expensive transmission but it basically is bullet proof and, after all, it is a SIX speed. I just love the idea. My '77 started out with a 4-spd. - then went to an '83 5spd. with 3.90:1 R200, now going to LS-1 with T-56 & 3.7:1 LSD R200 - 10 year project so far.
