Mike kZ
I just got this email and thought it would be of interest: Duratec engine to a Rear-Drive Transmission. Conversion to side-draft carburetors. Stand-alone ignition system. No computer!! http://www.quad4rods.com John Ehrlich at Al-Tech Precision (303-287-9093) AlTechPrec@yahoo.com This is the 200 pound all-aluminum 2.0 liter dohc Ford-Mazda engine with a Cosworth inspired race design. It is found in newer Ford Ranger and Mazda trucks, the Mazda6 (known as an "I-4") and the engine now being installed into the Ford Focus. Of course in those applications it is fuel injected and has an ECU. This engine will reliably produce 220 h.p. with very few modifications. After fitted with aftermarket performance internals, the engine will reach over 300 h.p N/A and over 800 h.p. when boosted. See: http://www.circleperformance.com then open the Duratec page. See: http://www.nhrasportcompact.com/2002/news/110601.html Duratec-powered drag car. Price per Zetec engine is about $2200.dollars at a Ford or Mazda dealer. My company's price is $1000.dollars. However, I would be willing to make a group purchase available to HybridZ members of $800.dollars each. Please write or call if interested. Sparky
this is an incredibly popular engine in europe. Its used in almost every new Caterham 7, and often found in "locost" sevens as well. uscaterham.com sevensandelises.com (not 100% sure, at school so cant check) the above are good US sources for these engines. I wouldnt hesitate to put it in a Locost, but I could think of better 4 bangers to put in a Z or 510.
