Guest comeandzpa
My dad was at a local car dealership the other day when a guy with a 1983 280ZX 2+2 came into the lot. He said that he wanted to trade his ZX in on a new car, but found out that what the dealership would offer him was lower than what he wanted for it, so he decided to sell it outright. Knowing that I would be interested, my dad asked for some specs. He is the original owner, and the car only has 40,000 miles. It is a 5 speed, with all hoses etc. recently replaced in the engine bay. It didn't even have the dash crack. No rust anywhere. So I looked into Kelley Blue Book pricing, figuring that the guy would ask a little more since the car was in such good shape. KBB lists retail value (what the dealership would sell it for) as about $2800. Therefore I figured that $3500 or so would be fair for such a good find. However, the guy wants $7900. Am I wrong, or is this WAY too high? It's not a turbo, has no real extras. Yes its in great shape, especially for its age, but still...... auxilary
if the guy can find a buyer for 7900, kudos to him. But I have a feeling he's going to be selling for a long time at that price. The only cars that would go for 8grand are zx-rs in mint condition
Jay1970Z
I'd say $3500 sounds fair, make him an offer, if he says no just walk away.
Guest comeandzpa
I figure I'll call him in a month or so, and if he still has it then I'll make him an offer. If he still isn't interested, too bad for him. He's gonna be stuck with it for a while, vehicles don't sell well around here.
akeizm
One quote that made me laugh was from Alan Stean from the Z workshop in australia. He said to me. "Its weird that Z's are worth more in parts than they are as a whole."
DavyZ
The gent is smoking crack for sure. They are just not worth that much from all the evidence I have seen. Give him your card and phone number and have him call if he can't sell it. My $.02. Davy
