Mikelly
The same shop my buddy went to for his dyno test the other day told me they pulled a set of side pipes off a corvette (Early 70's) and put some headers and full exhaust on and found 42HP!!!!! That is a huge gain over the previous confiduration.. I asked if they did anything else and they said that they hadn't... Guest Drewz
What sive i.d.and o.d. were those sidepipes? Don't tease me with some info. and then cut me off!! how old were the pipes. Most pipes are internal slat or vent style, these are prone to partial or completely plugging. It is absolutly beleivable that those pipes were that restrictive. I found a couple of cheap sets for sale but they are 2" i.d. Fat chance of putting that crap on my car. I am going for flow and have made a pair of 2 1/2 inchers. When I get them on my beast I will lovem or leavem. Power is more important than flashy pipes for my car. I am go not show. Thanks for the input, every bit helps. ------------------ Drewz

Guest SHARKMAN
About the seventy's corvette and mustangs. As I remember knowbody was using 2 1/2" or 3" pipe. Headers have been improved and now produce much more power than they did back then. If you used 1 3/4'-1 7/8" sanderson block huggers ceramic coated headers with 3" collectors and then used 3" pipe down to 3" side pipes I think you will gain enough power to make it worth your time and money spent. Yes I do know that your real gain if any in horsepwer won't begain until 5500 RPM. If someone has a well built engine like MIKELLY and some of you other guys you will beable to take full advantage of the concept. If you have a fairly stock engine you will still feel the difference from a basic small pipe no header system. This combination of header's and side pipes is what I will be installing on my car. Guest tom sixbey
how will your configuration be laid out? - on my car i'm thinking about cutting out a section of inner fender (frame reinforced of course) and building custom headers that shoot straight out the side just below the steering shaft (i think) - then connecting to side pipes from out of the outer fenders... - i'm wondering how well this would work... ------------------ Tom 6B (73NIC) "why slam on the brakes when you can slam on the gas?" Guest Drewz
You are basically going to create fenderwell headers from what I am to understand. They are O.K. but make sure you have the frame work up to par before cutting your fenders out. A unibody car such as these relies on the inner and outer body for its structure. 3inch does not look too good on the side of my Z so that is why I went to 21/2 inch. When I get my 260 on the go again I will mount them and bark er up and see if I like the flow, Look, and sound I get. No worries, If I likem I will post. ------------------ Drewz
