Guest ON3GO
hey guys.. im just sitting here thinking about my car .. well my friend here in houston is going to UTI for custom paint and prep work.. and he said he would paint, and do all the body work for me for free, i would just have to pay for the paint and thats all. he would be doing everything at his house.. he does AWESOME work, he's and his uncle have been doing this type of work for years, he's just going to school to get certified. anyways question is if i go along with this.. what color do i paint this Z.. I wanted to do Bayside Blue (R34 Skyline color), and do the hood black, ZG flares black, rear panel, 432R wing black, and the fender mirrors black, and my Air dam black. BUT at the time i ordered the wheels (the CCW's) i didnt want to paint my car this color so i ordered my wheels gun-metal center with polished lip. the center really isnt dark.. heres a pic.. so do you think i could just paint the parts i wanted to black now a color to match the wheels? or do you guys think it will looks crappy? mike
Drax240z
Paint them all gunmetal, I think it will look really slick.
ToplessZ
Yeah I second drax's idea I really like the gunmetal look. It goes well with the zg scheme and I think it would look awesome on your car. Keep up the great work man. That car is gonna rock and roll!!!!!!!!! Guest ON3GO
ya i think ill do the bayside blue with all those body parts gun-metal. heck if it dont look good when i just try it in spray paint ill do the car in a Viper gun-metal, with those parts black... but i just think blue would look better mike
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
I think it would look pretty good Assuming it looks better than my 5 min edit I think it would look awesome to carry the gray center over the roof and hatch as well. I see a lot of new Mercedes (wtf is the plural?) with the roof a dark color and it looks nice.
Drax240z
The plural of mercedes is obviously mercedeseses.
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Perhaps Mercedi ?
Guest ON3GO
i was thinking about the roof, hatch an hood the same color, but then it would look werid maybe. because the A-pillers connect with the roof, and it would look werid with them not the same color... i dunno.. if i do all the parts in gun-metal then what do i do with the fender mirrors? leave them black or get the chrome ones? also remember ill have the Euro clear side markers and Euro turn signals in the front.. mike
Tim240z
Personally (and this is purely a personal opinion), unless the car is absolutely stunning and show quality, having any single panel (ie hood) a different color makes the car look like a project in process....kinda like you didn't have enough $$ to paint the hood too Maybe a gunmetal grey racing stripe or something like that......or paint the car to match the rim centers and have a blue stripe if you have your heart set on that color blue. Guest ON3GO
well the body will be PERFECT, and so will the paint. if it doesnt get done here and now, ill do it whne the car is about done.. money wont be a object when it comes to the body and paint. mike
ToplessZ
although I think it looks ok I tend to agree with tims comment. I dont mind the carbon fiber hood but when you start painting random parts then it starts to look goofey. what I think would look good would be a carbon fibre hood and hatch. That would be different too.
Guest ON3GO
i was gonna paint the carbon fiber hood, but leave the buldge in the hood carbon fiber..
jonzer12
IMO tutone paints jobs can look great, if the ratio is very lopsided, I think you would have too much area different colours and it might not look as good as it could. I would go for the double racing stripes. Try to keep at least 70% of the car a single colour.
ToplessZ
Hey painting part of the carbon fiber hood and leaving a center section of it was my idea. Stole it out of Ricers Monthly (sport compact) lol. Anyway I like the idea of just leaving the hood bulge showing. But I think I would paint the zg flares the same color of the car. Two Tone can be a good thing but you start getting 3 or 4 colors mixed in there with trim parts and what not I think It starts looking like a striped tie on a flannel shirt. Just my opinion though. Remember those can be had for .02 or less
Guest ON3GO
its only gonna be 3 colors.. well 2 really. you have the chrome trim, the gun-metal, and the Blue. i gotta find somebody to photoshop it for me... unless i just get my wheels painted.. hmm i should have just ordered the black centers... mike
S30Z Bushido
mmm... bayside blue TV2 i say, paint the body that color, as well as the inside and engine bay. zg overfender taillight panel fender mirror painted the same color as this car's: with chrome euro bumpers...mmmm and if he is doing body work for free maybe he could replace the side marker lights like this car's:
Guest ON3GO
i was gonna do the engine bay Bayside Blue too. paint the ZG flares, miirors and rear panel the color blue of that Z or the grey? about the side markers.. u mean the little side marker on the BMW? mike
Guest ON3GO
and if you mean gray then it wont match the wheels (CCW's) at all....
Deep
Paint the car whatever colour you want and if you feel like the rims don't match up nice enough, paint/powdercoat them later. Multipiece wheels are a beautiful thing.
