Guest DISCUS
I am currently re-doing my 73 240z with new paint and have removed the engine and drivetrain for that purpose. As I clean and tidy all parts have thought about improving Horsepower. Currently dyno,s at 270 rear wheel horsepower with 300 ft lb torque throughout the range. It is very quiet and mild mannered. Would like to keep the smooth power and possibly reach 350 rear wheel. What are my best options for a cam. Already have headers, 3 inch exhaust, better air intake and hypertech performance chip. Overall weight of car is approximately 2600 lbs due to mods. Using T56 tranny with 3.7 diff.

Best cam choice IMO for the LT1 is the Comp Cams cc306 followed by the LT4 hotcam. Although with a larger cam you'll loose that smoothness but you'll aproach 350rwhp. Tim240z
If you have $2k to burn, get the LT4 upgrade...heads, intake, cam, blah blah blah..... http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=NAL%2DGMP3287%2D1 Tim
Guest 400HP280z
DO NOT DO THE LT4 KIT. stock ported lt1 heads that are ported and polished flow just as good and don't cost an arm and a leg. the lt1 intake is very good already also. i have the hotcam in my car and if i were going to do it over i would get the cc306. the lt4 kit is not worth the money you can do alot with a cc306 and a set of after market heads and still be in the $2000 range. to get 350hp. change your TB to a 58mm, get LT1Edit or Tunercat so you can see whats happening, get a frre flowing maf like grantetti(sp?), P &P your stock heads, upgrade your springs and get some 1.6 or 1.7 rocker arms. finally get the cc306 cam. i have a 94 z28 and have around 375 hp if i would have gone with the c306 , IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH EASIER. 80LS1T
What is your budget? You could start with some 30# injectors and a 58MM Throttle body? Those should get you a few more ponies with some tuning! 350RWHP should be too hard out of an LT1. I think the 306 Cam is also the way to go. I have the LT4 Hot Cam but I dont think its going to be enough to satisfy me at the track. But I dont know yet since I havent run it down the 1/4. I am hoping for low 12's but I would really like to get into the 11's Or you could go the easy route and buy a NOS kit! A small shot like 100HP wouldnt/shouldnt hurt the engine!
