My boyfriend just built a 406 SBC for his '76 280z, wonder what you guys make of his combo? its 11.5:1 compression, hyperutectic flat tops, regular 400 rods :( , but with arp bolts, balanced with fluiddampener street dampener, motown 220 heads 2.05/1.625 valves with pocket porting, comp Xe 268 mechanical roller/ 236/242 @ .050, .567/.574 lift, preformer rpm airgap, 750 speed demon, and S&S 1 3/4 headers, comp promag rockers, and MSD digital 6. kinda curious if combo sounds tough enough to go high 10s? any feedback would be appreciated.

DAMN! I ran that combo in DD2K, and it looks like about 500HP@5500 rpm and 535TQ@4000 rpm. If you can hook that beast (you didn't say exactly what car it's in, a Z?), it should get you at least close...

Also, I second that, where are you in texas? I'm in north austin myself. I'd love to get a look at that thing running.

my $.02

actually i think she said a 76' 280Z....

That engine combo should make for a wild car..

I think that getting into the high 10's with that car depends alot on your gearing. 500 hp in an approx. 2900lb car, should be pretty close to 10 sec 1/4 mile... right?

Absolutely, but you might want to get friendly with the driveline shop and have a few extra halfshafts on hand, you'll need them if you hook it up and break out the hi-test gas with that bruiser, I think at 11.5-1 it'll need it. :D

Sweet motor! BTW, I have the solid flat tappet version of that cam (PN 12-677-4) in my little 327 (9.7:1 compression) and it's just on the edge of what I'd call streetable - any more and it would be too much.

I'd think it'd seem a bit more docile in a 383, and with that much compression even more so. I think you could easily go for a bigger cam if this is a drag-mostly car.

Last I heard, the ricers hang out at fuddruckers up here. Well, they're not all ricers, I guess. Couple of camaros and stangs in there. If you want to hook up with some street races, check www.texasracingscene.com. they have a forum for Austin racing. Sometimes they hit zilker park, and sometimes they hang at northcross mall. depends on the night, but they get together several nights a week.
