80LS1T
I am going to be putting in a fuel gauge and maybe an A/F gauge in my dash this winter and I was wondering what the resistance is on the fuel sending unit from empty to full? I have tried searching but no one seems to know. Guy
zxgts-4
Hello Guy, the sender that I have lying around out of a 1982 model reads 14 Ohms through to 82 Ohms hope thats of some assistance. Neil
zxgts-4
Sorry Guy, left off some info, low resistance reading when in Full position, high resistance was in Empty position. Neil
80LS1T
Thanks thats just what I needed! Guy
80LS1T
Ok Im planning on using an Autometer fuel gauge and Autometer A/F gauge to complete the gauges for my car. Now since I now know that empty is about 14ohms and full is 82ohms. Will a 0ohms to 90ohms fuel gauge work.....or be close enough? What I am thinking is it wont read completely full when full? Is that what it will do? Or should a put a resistor in series with the sending wire? Guy
Mike kZ
Read this article from Pete's webpage. Now this fix isn't perfect, I tryed it and it wasn't acurate enough for me. So I ended up modifing a Ford sending unit to fit the Datsun tank. http://home.comcast.net/~pparaska/gagecalibration.htm
zxgts-4
Guy Given that most fuel guages aren't dead accurate I would think that, that range would be pretty close. I would think that it would just read shorter on each end and as most gauges usually read past the upper and lower ends of the scale it should be all right. Remember I was testing a used unit so the factory parameters may have varied slightly anyway. The half full point would only be 3 Ohms different based on the unit I measured and experience with a car is how you judge what fuel is left anyway. You also shouldn't run on the dregs in the tank thats where the shit usaully is. Go for it! Neil
mas28O
I am usg the autometer and it work good.
80LS1T
So did the fuel gauge read to completely full or did it stop right before? Guy
mas28O
It reads full.
80LS1T
Oh yeah an Mas280, which fuel gauge did you buy.....which ohm range? I need the 0-90ohm right?(if 14ohms is empty and 82ohms is full) Guy
mas28O
I bought the 0-90 on my car it was 8-85oms so it was very close.
zxgts-4
heyGuy Other way round 14 Ohms full and 82 Ohms empty, sorry doing in two posts probably made it confusing. Neil
80LS1T
Ok so did I get the wrong fuel gauge then? I ordered the 0-90 ohms gauge. Since it doesnt say in the fuel gauge description I have no idea if 0 ohms is full or if its empty? Guy
mas28O
When I ordered my gauge it was the one for Ford,s.
80LS1T
As Homer Simpson would say "Doooohhhhhhhhhh!!!" Yeah I ordered the GM (65-up) 0-90 ohm not the Ford one! I guess that will be going back to Jegs! LOL Guy
