TomoHawk
78 280Z Is there a way to put on shorter shock things on the bumpers so they don't stick out so far? the front one sticks out like a couple feet. Maybe just shorten them? thx.
denny411
You could drill a hole in them to collapse them. Then compress them and drill a hole all the way through them, this will allow you to put a bolt in to hold them in place.
TomoHawk
OK, but then you lose the capacity for them to rebound if you bump something. If you bump anything, you'll get damage to the bumper shocks or maybe even the frame. Oh-- the Haynes manual says not to mess with those things because they are under pressure Couldn't you just drill new holes in the shocks for the mounting screws? Is there enough metal for that? thx. datsunlover
My $.02.... by this point, the bumper shocks are more than likely toast and seized anyway. I'd compress them (if they will move) and put a small bit of weld around them to hold them there. That will move the bumper in, and if you hit something, it will still have a bit of room to move. (the weld will moste likely break from the shock.) I have heard this being done to a lot of vehicles.
TomoHawk
Do you think it would be possible to fit some kind of coil spring inside the tube, or just for a shorter gas-filled tube?
