I have a turbo short block that has been sitting on engine stand for about year (i coated it with oil) and now i am about ready to use it but on one or two cylinders there is like little surface rust on top of it so now i am wondering if i can just go and take it off with some steel wool or should i just leave it alone? i will take some picture of it tomorow and post it but right now i would just like to hear some opinions.

Thanks,

Ivan

Ofcourse it depends on how much rust had how perfect you want the bottom end to be. If it's just very light rust try something like WD-40 and some fine steel wool to remove it. Make sure not to get anything down into the cylinders. If the engine is on a rotating stand you might try to turn it upside down before you try and remove it. This way gravity would be on your side.
