240sx brakes on a 280z?

Recommended Posts

Did a quick search, but didn't come up with anything. Wondering if the brakes from a 90's 240sx would be considered an 'upgrade' for a 280z? I'm sure they are vented, which would be beter then my solid fronts, and didnt some 240's had rear disk's? See, I was thining of spliting the cost with a friend on a wrecked/rusted 240sx. She has an 88 RX7 with a blown rotary, but the rest of the car is mint. She loves the look of the car, and has over $3000 into it (new brakes, tires, ect) The 13B went 'POP' last summer, and she wanted to get it going again... but without the gas sucking/blowing up/SLOW motor. Anyhow, we got to talking about swaping in a basic 4 cyl engine to make the car an economical and reliable daily driver. It's an auto (which she wants to keep), and she doesnt race it.. just likes crusing around in it, so a nissan 2.4 would do it for her. As for me, I want some 240 seats for my Z, maybe the carpets, rear end/cv's, and was thinking I could use the brakes too. Anybody done this? I am not afraid of some fabricating work, just curious if anyone here has good or bad to say about 240sx brakes.

rear 240sx calipers work on our Z'sd but we need brackets that Ross sells, with those calipers you need Z31 300zx N/A rotors.

as for the front i havent heard of them being used on a Z.

im sure it would be a "upgrade" but i dunno if it would be worth all the fabing up you would have to do.

cheap upgrade would be the toyota 4X4 upgrade or maybe even JSK brake upgrade or Ross's Kits.

I know Juan (JSK) is selling his front rotor hats and caliper mounts at a low price on ebay. I love mine.

Search online, they (240SX owners) very commonly upgrade their fronts to Z32 front brakes (that I'm no fan of, engineering-learning excercise that was for Nissan). I'm sure they'd be an upgrade over 280Z stuff but no idea how worthwhile.

240SX rear suspensions are great setups, but too wide to suit a Z as I understand. I've got CV shafts from one or two cars you could have free. I had been thinking of doing one in a 280ZX but that's on hold now with the unrecovered stolen car at present.

As to the front rotors, I am thinking the front SX rotors are smaller than the 300ZX four lug rotors. I say this because I put the Maxima rotors on my SX and they are of larger diameter than the OEM front SX rotors (and the same size as the 300ZX rotors) by at least 3/4".
